Snowmobile rentals, Colorado

Is there a place to eat?

You can travel across the mountain to Red Cliff and eat lunch at the famous Mango's Restaurant where you will receive a 10% discount with a snowmobile rental from Colorado Backcountry Rentals. There is also a convenience store in Red Cliff where you can get some hot chocolate or coffee.

Is there a place on the machines to store food and drinks?

The double sleds, Venture Lights, do have storage. The Phazers do not.

Where do you take us to ride?

First, everyone will need to come to the check in office. After you finish the check in process you will then drive 12 miles to the Vail Pass Recreation Area. Exit 190. We will unload the snowmobiles and you will ride on your own through the White River National Forest. The Forest Service maintains the trail system. We will give you a map that shows beginner trails, intermediate trails and advanced trails.

What is your cancellation policy?

There is a 100% cancellation fee inside of 48 hours prior to your reservation time.

How long will a tank of gas last me on the snowmobiles?

You can go approximately 100 miles on a tank of gas.

What should I wear?

While snowmobiling you need to wear ski pants and jackets, layers, gloves and warm snow boots. If you don't have a ski suit or boots we have them at our office for an additional rental charge of $7.50 each. You will also need to bring your own goggles. The helmets are a Sno-cross design. If you do not have goggles you can purchase a pair at our office for $20.00.

What if we get in trouble and need some assistance?

Each machine has an "Emergency Procedure" card attached with appropriate phone numbers. One of our staff will be happy to help you if you are stuck; however, you will be charged a rescue fee.

Can we get cell phone signal in the National Forest?

It is very spotty. As you are riding we encourage you to stop and check your signal every so often. If an emergency arises you will want to go to the last place you had signal and make the call.
