Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Is there a place to eat? (for snowmobile rentals only)
If you are riding snowmobiles, you can travel across the mountain to Red Cliff and eat lunch at the famous Mango's Restaurant where you will receive a 10% discount with a rental from Colorado Backcountry Rentals.
  2. Is there a place on the machines to store food and drinks?
Snowmobiles: The double sleds, Venture Lights, do have storage. The Phazers do not. Each ATV has a large storage box attached. You can bring a picnic lunch, water bottles, snacks etc.
  3. Where do you take us to ride?
Your party will come to our office in Frisco, Colorado first to check-in. From there we will trailer the machines 10 miles to the Vail Pass Recreation Area. It is there that we will drop off the machines and you can then access the White River National Forest. There are over 50 miles of marked trails in this National Forest.
  4. What is your cancellation policy?
There is a 100% cancellation fee inside of 48 hours prior to your reservation time.
  5. How long will a tank of gas last me on the snowmobiles?
You can go approximately 100 miles on a tank of gas.
  6. What should I wear?
While snowmobiling you need to wear ski pants and jackets, layers, gloves and warm snow boots. If you don't have a ski suit or boots we have them at our office for an additional rental charge of $7.50 each. You will also need to bring your own goggles. The helmets are a Sno-cross design. If you do not have goggles you can purchase a pair at our office for $18.00.
While riding the ATV's you will want to wear long pants and sturdy shoes. It would be also wise to bring along some rain gear as it likely to be caught in an afternoon shower. We will provide emergency rain gear on bad weather days.
  7. What if we get in trouble and need some assistance?
Each machine has an "Emergency Procedure" card attached with appropriate phone numbers. One of our staff will be happy to help you if you are stuck; however, you will be charged a rescue fee.
  8. Can we get cell phone signal in the National Forest?
It is very spotty. As you are riding we encourage you to stop and check your signal every so often. If an emergency arises you will want to go to the last place you had signal and make the call.
